How to measure and order
Enter non-overlapping rectangular sections for the driveway area. New driveway mode estimates separate base and surface layers; Resurface / Top dressing estimates only the surface layer. Custom layers lets you enter the layers you plan to estimate. Depths are user inputs, not prescribed construction requirements.
US: sq ft × depth in ÷ 324 = yd³ · Metric: m² × depth m = m³
Worked two-layer example
For one 50 × 12 ft area (600 sq ft), a 4 in Crusher run / Road base layer at 1.50 US tons/yd³ and a 2 in #57 Crushed Stone layer at 1.40 US tons/yd³ have geometric volumes of 7.41 and 3.70 yd³. With an illustrative, user-selected 10% allowance, the order volumes are 8.15 and 4.07 yd³; combined order volume is 12.22 yd³ and approximate weight is 17.9 US tons. The allowance multiplies the entered geometric volume; it is not a verified loose-to-compacted conversion.
Density presets and allowance are planning inputs. Supplier summaries include area, layer names, materials, depths, densities, approximate layer weights, total order and allowance; share dimensions separately if your supplier requests them. Confirm product density and delivery quantities with the supplier.

Driveway gravel questions
How much gravel does a driveway need?
Enter each rectangular section and the planned depth for each layer. The calculator shows geometric volume separately from an order estimate that includes your allowance.
Can I estimate a resurfacing project?
Choose Resurface / Top dressing to calculate a single surface layer without a base layer.
What does the ordering allowance do?
It adds the percentage you choose for grading variation, handling and minor losses. Set it to 0% when you do not want an allowance.
